the road to independence

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) for persons with autism.

Adolescents and young adults  who need  services to thrive often  need extra help to  be  ready  for  independent   living.  They may  have little experience making their own decisions,  selecting  a  living  arrangement,  making  and  keeping  appointments,  and  planning their time  wisely.  Many  lack  experience with home care,  banking,  working, and transportation,  and  often  self  care  skills  are challenging.

Young  people  with  autism and other disabilities  may  need  help  to  succeed  in  post-secondary  school  and  the  world  of  work.   With support,  many young  people  and  adults  with  disabilities  can  learn  skills  to  perform  home  care,  do  work they  enjoy,   and  live  with  their  optimal  degree  of  independance.  The  ability  to  perform  these and  other  essential  skills  increases  opportunity.

Adults  who  require  services  to live  independently  retain  the  right  to  direct  their  services,  but  they  may  not  have  the  skills  to  do  so.  Systematic  preparation  ensures young adults'  preferences, strengths, and goals drive  team  decisions  about  their  lives,

There  are  a  number  of  factors  that  can make  skills  difficult  to  perform.   We  employ the  most  effective  methods  in the field of ABA  to help ensure skills are performed without  assistance,   when  and  where  they  are  needed. We target   improvements in  self-direction  and  independence.  Some  of  the  skills  we  teach  include the  following:

  • Work  readiness  and  job/career  planning
  • Self-  and  home-care  skills  for  living  alone
  • Shopping,  budgeting,  banking,  and  financial  wellness
  • Community  safety
  • Transportation  options  and  scheduling
  • Social  skills  for  the  workplace
  • Routine  home  care
  • Using  the  Internet  safely  for  leisure and  to  access   necessities
  • Health  and  accessing  healthcare
  • Organization, planning, initiating  and monitoring tasks,  time management and more
  • Relationships  and  connections  to  community
  • Self-advocating
  • Identifying  personal  values,  setting  goals  and  carrying  out  plans  to  live  a values-based  life

We’d  love  to  help  with  this  important  transition. Serving Bowling Green, KY and surrounding counties. Call 270-935-5119.
