Engaging, compassionate, person-first services for young people who need help for today, and to move into adult roles.
We are a locally owned cooperative of behavioral health providers making good things happen every day. We partner with families to build skills, replace problem behaviors, and help persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities and other challenges to enjoy their version of the best life can offer.
When it’s a struggle to communicate, behavior does the talking. We build verbal and non-verbal communication skills that help build relationships, create a foundation for learning, and make life more enjoyable.
Social skills are essential to success in school, relationships, and work. We utilize a proven curriculum and proven strategies, along with real life practice to help develop meaningful friendships and maintain positive relationships.
It‘s common to worry about the what the future holds. We teach skills to help young people meet life’s challenges, enjoy optimal independence and engage meaningfully in higher education, relationships, work, and careers.
Difficult behaviors like tantrums, self-injury, and aggression can occur at any age. Often, difficult behavior worsens over time. We listen when behavior talks, and we build skills to reduce challenging behavior, and improve relationships. Our compassionate care provides hope and relief when it’s needed most.
Learn how we help families and their loved ones with behavioral health needs, including those associated with acquired brain injury and intellectual and developmental disabilities. We will do our best to help you find the ideal support, even if it‘s not with us.

Our Executive Director, Dr. Carrie Pritchard, envisioned a place in which thriving was the rule rather than the exception. At Essential Behavior, everything we do supports our mission of helping people live their version of life at its best--providers and participants alike. Dr. Pritchard lives the joys and challenges of parenting a child on the autism spectrum. She knows that finding the right help is hard, and working with providers asks a lot. We think such lived experience amplifies the compassion of our work. And we know a little about how much we ask of our families; we use the strategies we recommend in our own work. After all if it's good advice for you, it's good advice for us.
Quite intentionally, Essential Behavior is not your typical company. We're a locally owned network of experienced, licensed providers bound by our dedication to service. We're a dynamic and vibrant group, and our collaboration makes us better than the sum of our (very good) parts. When you work with our expert BCBAs, the entire organization stands with you. Why does this matter?
ABA services are highly technical. Finding a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) improves the chances that the services you receive will be effective. Yet, many are surprised to learn that BCBA certification is a minimum qualification for our profession. It takes years of additional training and experience to skillfully provide the range of services that may benefit your family.

Essential Behavior providers are encouraged to develop expertise in their areas of passion. Our expert providers share their knowledge to ensure participants receive the best possible services regardless the provider they work with. Our collaborative approach empowers us to achieve our vision of providing the highest quality services with the utmost respect for the dignity of all.
Above all, we promote the dignity of individuals of any gender/ gender non-conforming, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, or religion. Service necessarily entails supporting the values of those we serve, working toward goals firmly rooted in their values, preferences, and dreams. There may be no greater disservice than to guide a person to live a life they did not choose. Our team approach help us keep our biases in check. You'll find your values in the support we provide.
We know that seeking the right services can feel like a burden, and choosing the best provider is a worry. Although most of our families enjoy significant improvement, it takes a thorough understanding of your needs to determine how you and your loved ones may benefit.
We extend services if we're certain we have the expertise you need. But we'll try to help you find the right services, even when they're not with us. To learn more, call 270-935-5119, or request a Guide to Services below.

How we teach is just as important as what we teach. ABA and Behavior Support services are unique to each person. One constant is that we teach skills in the context of real-life routines while also coaching caregivers to support emerging skills. By providing ongoing coaching, caregivers learn to support their loved one and, together, create their versions of life at its best. Unlike skills taught in clinic, our model for teaching and coaching makes skills more likely to be used when and where they are needed. We're with you every step of the way so you learn to work wonders, too.
